Course description

This course is designed to provide an introduction to photography, covering the fundamentals of camera operation, exposure, composition, lighting, and editing. Through lectures, demonstrations, and practical assignments, students will develop the skills and techniques necessary to create compelling photographs.

Course Goals: Upon completion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Understand the basic principles of photography
  • Operate a camera in manual mode
  • Control exposure and lighting to achieve desired results
  • Apply compositional techniques to create visually appealing images
  • Edit and enhance photographs using digital tools
  • Critically analyze and evaluate photographic works

Prerequisites/Requirements:

  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must have a laptop.

Course Outline

  • Types of cameras and lenses
  • Understanding exposure: Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO
  • Composition basics: Rule of thirds, framing, and angles
  • Shooting modes: Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority
  • White balance and color temperature
  • Focus and depth of field
  • Natural light vs. artificial light
  • Understanding light direction and quality
  • On-camera flash vs. off-camera flash
  • Flash exposure compensation
  • Visual storytelling and concept development
  • Using lines, shapes, and patterns in composition
  • Color theory in photography
  • Creative techniques: Long exposure, panning, and multiple exposures
  • Overview of digital image editing software
  • Basic adjustments: Exposure, contrast, and color correction
  • Image resizing and cropping
  • Retouching and compositing

This section will include an overview of content Copyright and Licensing .

At the end of this course, you are expected to complete all projects given to you before you’re certified. This is a practical course and it requires some creativity to become an effective Photographer.

  • Develop and execute a photography project
  • Editing and refining the final images
  • Critique and evaluation of the project
  • Final review and preparation.

Bubacarr Sanneh, Popularly Know as Boblin Granero is a passionate Photographer. He has a Bsc in information Systems in the University of The Gambia and graduated in 2021 with Hons in Information Systems. He is a highly-skilled photographer driven to share his knowledge.
